Janel Broberg, MA, LMFT
Hello future clients! I am excited to share a bit about me. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in California (MFT #133050) and Nevada (MFT #4357-R) and an independent contractor therapist for Caitlin R. Burgess, JD, MA, LMFT.
My goal as a therapist is to walk alongside you without judgement in both the difficult and easy moments of your life. My hope is to provide you with a therapy experience to best fit your needs. As a therapist with a love for helping others, I want to work with you and/or yours to help you live your most authentic life by providing the tools to succeed and to cope with past and current struggles.
I have been working as a counselor for over 10 years. I received my B.A. from San Jose State University in Child Development and my Masters in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University.
My first counseling experience was at the Bill Wilson Center in San Jose, California, where I counseled at-risk youth in a residential treatment facility who were facing substance abuse and/or psychological issues, criminal histories, juvenile dependency issues, and gang-affiliation. I provided crisis intervention and management for these individuals.
Later, I worked in numerous public schools serving special education and general education students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Since 2020, I have been serving individual adults, adolescents, and children as well as families and couples in a teletherapy setting.
My specialized training includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and family systems. I work with co-parents, families, individuals, couples, adolescents and children struggling with a variety of issues including substance abuse, grief, suicidal ideation, and family and parenting concerns. I have a knowledge of appropriate resources to better support my clients.
On a personal note, I am a wife and mother of three children ages 10, 13 and 15 and a dog mom. Self-care that I practice weekly is exercising, spending time with family and friends and taking my children to their various sporting functions.
People who know me best describe me as warm, funny, and gentle yet direct. I will bring all of these traits into our therapy sessions. My main role as a clinician is to provide insight and feedback on what’s not working in your life and/or in your relationships, and to come up with solutions to increase your daily functioning. Let’s work together to provide the healing space you and/or yours need to overcome struggles to thrive and move forward!
